Article Abstract:

The energy balance of the composting process must be controlled to improve the quality of the compost or biosolids produced and to prevent fires. Measures to control the energy balance of the compost substrates are dependent upon the composting system used and the organic materials being processed. The methods used to control the energy balance are adding water, limiting the supply of air by controlling aeration, and adding a supplemental energy source.
