Green glass turned away in Ontario

Article Abstract:

Ontario's curbside glass recycling program has suffered a setback after Consumers Glass said it would stop buying recycled glass. Consumers Glass uses the recycled glass in manufacturing US-bound beer bottles for Molson Brewing Co. However, Molson has decided that it will serve the US market through its Montreal brewery, forcing Consumers Glass to supply Molson from its New Brunswick facility rather than from Ontario. As much as 100,000 metric tons of glass was collected in Ontario in 2000.

A world of difference

Article Abstract:

Mexico has a poor recycling rate due to two major factors. Many people think that recycling is only done by the poor in order to earn money, so the upper and middle class do not recycle materials much. Second, there are no laws that enforce citizens to recycle by financial incentives. Solutions could be provided through educational programs or more public participation.
