Holding the line on the C&D front

Article Abstract:

The construction and demolition debris (C&D) recycling industry has been benefitting from the positive effects of the healthy economy. Major metropolitan areas in North America saw an increase in C&D activity in 1999 as a result of several factors. The uptrend is attributed to the increasing use of crushed concrete at or near a demolition site to save dual hauling costs: the cost of hauling aggregates in from a distant quarry and the cost of hauling debris away from a demolition site and to a landfill.

The daily grind (and crush)

Article Abstract:

The most common scrap materials produced at demolition and construction projects are often converted by grinding and crushing into smaller and reusable materials. There are machines that crush concrete and asphalt chunks and chip large volumes of wood into smaller sizes. Although there are many design variations of crushers, they are often categorized as jaw crushers, impact crushers and cone crushers.
