Model programs on tribal lands of Cherokee Indians

Article Abstract:

North Carolina's Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) is using a composting program to divert food residuals and wastewater biosolids from landfills. The diversion saves the EBCI the $150-per-ton fee for special handling of biosolids, and has presented the EBCI with an additional source of income, as the resulting compost is marketed to homeowners and landscapers.
