Compost remediates a landfill and grows a national park

Article Abstract:

A project that would convert Spectacle Island from an eyesore to the gateway for Boston Harbor Island national park area, with the help of manufactured topsoil enriched by compost, is highlighted. This project provides an example of the value of compost in creating high quality, plant-nurturing topsoil.

Air separation strategies tackle plastics contamination

Article Abstract:

Several techniques are presented for using air flow to separate plastics from end product screening of municipal solid waste. These include horizontal orientation with conveyor, trommel screens with louvers and roll-off containers, and airlocks with blowers and cyclone separators.

Large animal mortality composting goes mainstream

Article Abstract:

The article describes the process of converting livestock mortalities into compost. Dead cows and swine carcasses are layered with a bulking agent, allowed to decompose, and are then ground, windrowed, and screened to create a finished product.
