Recycler breathes new life into Tonka building

Article Abstract:

Recycling Alternatives Inc's (RIA) acquisition of a plastics recycler helped the company bring new life into a 60,000-sq-ft facility that was previously a production plant for the Tonka Toy Co. A processor of multi- polymer thermoplastic post-industrial waste, Spring Park, MN-based RIA now collects and recycles over 40 types of commercially produced plastic scrap materials collected from RIA's 150 corporate customers in the upper Midwest.

An evolving industry

Article Abstract:

With the current increase in electronics waste management, the big question is how to manage the equipment fairly between manufacturer, consumer, and government. Europe and San Francisco, California have established programs that concentrate on the effective handling of electronic waste. Frank Marella of Sharp Electronics Corp. and David Thompson of Panasonic discuss their views on the issue.

Martin Color-Fi furthers reorganization plan

Article Abstract:

Edgefield, SC-based Martin Color-Fi Inc (MCF), a manufacturer of polyester fibers and pellets made out of recycled plastic materials, has been acquired by Dimeling, Schreiber and Park, a private investment firm based in Philadelphia, PA. Under the terms of the agreement, MCF, which filed for Chapter 11 protection in Nov 1998, will retain its name and about 550 employees.
