What's next for nonprofit recyclers?

Article Abstract:

BRING Recycling has faced the challenge of fluctuating markets, challenges from private enterprise and leadership turnover since its inception in 1971. It has built a solid base for public and private sector recycling. It recycled 450 tons of material in 1971 and by 1983 that figure grew to 2,100 tons. As its original mission has become public policy it is seeking new opportunities and it already has a successful reuse yard and deconstruction operation. It is also considering organics recycling.

Pathogenic health aspects of land application

Article Abstract:

Recycled organic products sometimes contain pathogenic microorganisms which persist following land application. Microorganisms such as Salmonellae, Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Escherichia coli are found in biosolid products. Biosolids are categorized to reflect the pathogens they contain for safety reasons. Site restrictions are imposed to manage contaminated products.
