Whittling away at wood waste

Article Abstract:

Various private companies, unable to take in profit from their original businesses are turning into the scrap wood salvaging and doing something profitable about it. For example, Alexander Pallet Inc in North Bergen, NJ, restores and resells grocery pallets.Another example is New York City builder Robert Langeland who was not making much from the construction industry because of the economic depression and so went into the recycling business and created the Wastebusters Inc. Taylor Tree Inc was also not making money so the owner turned the company into the Taylor Recycling Facility.

Businesses promote school recycling

Article Abstract:

An increasing number of business firms across the U.S. are engaging schools in recycling projects. Phoenix Recycling Inc of South Carolina, for instance, produces trash bags from used plastic grocery bags bought from students from 3,000 elementary schools. Tetra Pak and Combiblock, aseptic drink container manufacturers, have helped initiate about 1,000 school recycling programs. Some companies, on the other hand, are selling their recycled products to schools. For instance, National Waste Technologies of New York has marketed plastic lumber to 13 schools.

Refillables cut waste at schools

Article Abstract:

Bethlehem PA schools have adopted the use of refillable plastic bottles instead of milk cartons. The change is considered a waste disposal cost-saving measure. Students have reacted approvingly with reasons ranging from the bottle's ability to keep milk fresher and colder longer to a recognition of basic environmental responsibility. The bottles' cost, form and strength are evaluated approvingly.
