Clement Greenberg, Harold Rosenberg, and their Jewish issues

Article Abstract:

Clement Greenberg and Harold Rosenberg were two art critics associated with abstract expressionism in the 1940s and 1950s. They rejected the dogmatic and authoritarian aspects of leftist politics, and believed that society must move forward with the help of individuals who were independent minded and creative and so they encouraged artists to turn from social concerns to self-searching themes that characterized the art of 1940s and thus lionized the artist as a heroic individual.
