Wildlife conservation in Iran

Article Abstract:

More work needs to be done in Iran to strike a balance between the conservation of habitats and wildlife and development. In the short term plans include enforcement of the law and heavy penalties, while medium term plans focus on a rearrangement of protected areas and emphasis on zoning. The philosophy behind such concepts are not new to the traditional societies in Iran, as tribes in remote communities have been greater savers of the countryside, soil, water and forests for generations.

Recent economic developments in Iran

Article Abstract:

Iran's agriculture, small-scale and service industries have achieved rapid growth as a consequence of gradual deregulation and privatization policies implemented by the government. However, the overall economic situation is fraught with perils mainly as a result of the West's sanctions against the revolutionary government. The West needs to rethink its policy of unconditional alienation to avail of Iran's strategic position in the Persian Gulf.
