Characteristics of residential care for adolescent offenders: a comparison of assumptions and practices in two models

Article Abstract:

There are differences in staff assumptions regarding discipline, adult and peer influence and supervision, and actual program practices of peer-mediated group care (GC) and adult-mediated treatment foster care (TFC) residential programs for delinquent adolescents. Staff perceive peers to be more influential in GC. Strict discipline, supervision methods, and staff's perceived influence on boys' success is more in TFC. Discrepancy in staff's and boys' reports in GC is about problem behavior levels, peer and adult contact and supervision practices, and in TFC it is about peer contact.

An overview of issues in research on consumer satisfaction with child and adolescent mental health services

Article Abstract:

Research that focuses on consumer satisfaction with child and adolescent mental health services such as that of Stroul and Friedman (1986), Lebow (1983), Brannan and Heflinger (1993), Schwab and Stone (1983) are reviewed, and their most important findings are critically presented. Important conceptual and methodological issues of research in this field are also highlighted. Development of standardized instruments and methods of data collection will greatly benefit future research.

Reliability of the child and adolescent needs and strengths-mental health (CANS-MH) scale

Article Abstract:

The interrater reliability of the child and adolescent needs and strengths-mental health (CANS-MH) scale is studied with the help of random sample of 60 cases where all children entering the facility were described using the CAN-MH. Results of this study support that the CANS-MH is a reliable measure of clinical and psychosocial needs and strengths.
