Corporal punishment in adolescence and physical assaults on spouses in later life: what accounts for the link?

Article Abstract:

Corporal punishment in adolescence leads to approval of violence against a spouse, experience of depression and heightened levels of marital conflict in adult life. Witnessing violence between parents is also linked to increased physical violence against the spouse. Men assault their wives irrespective of the number of children they have, but women with more children assault their husbands less frequently. Elimination of corporal punishment can result in the decrease of marital violence and depression.

Social capital and successful development among at-risk youth

Article Abstract:

An analysis of youth development in at-risk youth based on social capital shows that social capital within the community and the family influence the life chances of children and help youth to arrange their individual pathways. The broadly constructed social capital guides the discriminating strategies of socioeconomic failure and success among the youth at risk. The social capital is a resource originating from individual investments, which the individuals utilize to increase their opportunities.

Socialization in the family of origin and male dating violence: a prospective study

Article Abstract:

Much interest is put in the research of dating violence because it occurs in at least 20% of all dating relationships. Furthermore, it results in physical and emotional injury and is believed to be the precursor of marital abuse. Dating aggression is found to be effected by constant experience of corporal punishment in the family and the parent's low involvement and support as these drive adolescents to drugs and delinquency.
