Violent behavior in adolescents and young adults: a person and environment model

Article Abstract:

Personal and environmental variables predict violent behavior in adolescents and young adults, and when combined with prior violent behavior, they also explain the changes in violent behaviors from year to year. The person and environment model examines personal factors such as gender, suicidality and substance misuse, and environmental factors such as stressful events, unemployment and poverty. It provides information required to identify and treat adolescents and youths with mental health problems, and enhance intervention in social problems.

Mental health, social environment and sexual risk behaviors of adolescent service users: a gender comparison

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted on mental health problems and social environment factors associated with teenage sexual risk behaviors. The results indicate that conduct disorder symptoms, substance abuse/dependence symptoms and interaction between peer misbehavior and neighborhood problems were linked with risky sexual behaviors. These findings suggest the need for multidimensional intervention strategies in dealing with teenage problem behaviors, including risky sexual behaviors.
