The changing demographic and socioeconomic characteristics of single parent families

Article Abstract:

The number of single parent families has increased significantly since the late 1960s and approximately four of every ten children have been or will be part of a single parent family in their lifetimes. Single parent families are disadvantaged economically and in health status and housing conditions in comparison to two-parent families. The number of children spending time in a single parent family is expected to increase and so these children's economic and social needs must be recognized.
