Responsible fathering: an overview and conceptual framework

Article Abstract:

A conceptual model of influences of fathering revealed that it is affected by the factors that include mother's expectations and behaviors, the quality of coparental relationship, economic factors, institutional factors and employment opportunities. Thus, it was concluded that fathering is both a on-to-one relationship and a multirelationship. Furthermore, fathers should recognize paternity, be willfully present and provide for the child financially and be emotionally involved with their children, to be deemed responsible fathers.

Juggling jobs and kids: the impact of employment schedules on fathers' caring for children

Article Abstract:

The effect of couple's employment schedules on the paternal responsibility for child care was analyzed. Fathers were found to take over the responsibility for child care when mothers were not available. However, their capacity to perform this parental duty was constrained by their own employment schedules. Thus, employment schedules greatly affect family life and effective time management is one of the requisites of a satisfactory family life.

We are all responsible for responsible fathering: a response to Walker and McGraw

Article Abstract:

The factors that affect active, responsible fathering are discussed. The main aim of encouraging responsible fathering is to benefit the children, but it cannot be argued that children can be raised effectively only by parents of both genders.
