Risk, conflict, mothers' parenting, and children's adjustment in low-income, Mexican immigrant, and Mexican American families

Article Abstract:

The psychological impact of the parenting methods and discipline practices used by Mexican American mothers to their children is studied using structural equation modeling. Statistical information were procured from 121 low-income Mexican immigrant and Mexican American families. Different process models were used for childrens' and mothers' reports. Results show that higher rates of maternal acculturation correspond to more consistent discipline practices and less depression among children.

Parenting practices of single mothers: mediators of negative contextual factors

Article Abstract:

A study by the Oregon Social Learning Center used structural equation models for older and younger boys to test whether the effects of socioeconomic disadvantages and maternal antisocial qualities on antisocial behavior problems would adversely effect parenting practices. The disrupted parenting practices of mothers with antisocial qualities who had older boys increased the risk of antisocial behavior problems for their sons.
