Understanding children's divorce adjustment from an ecological perspective

Article Abstract:

A study of the impact of commonly studied divorce variables on the level of adjustment by children in the post-divorce period using an ecological perspective reveals considerable variance of overall composite scores including the microsystem and exosystem level in children's self-reported adjustment and self-esteem. The study highlights the need to add new variables in studies reporting children's adjustment. The ecological model uses a three system model that includes ontogenic system, microsystem and exosystem to study children's post-divorce adjustment.

Relationships between divorce and college students' development of identity and intimacy

Article Abstract:

The effects of parental divorce on adolescents are examined using the Personal Orientation Inventory (Shostrom, 1974) and the Family Adaptability and Cohesion Evaluation Scale (Olson, 1985). The teenagers studied were divided into two groups: those who were between the ages of 11 and 17 when their parents divorced, and those who were younger than 11 at the time of their parents' divorce. The two groups did not reveal much difference on being compared.

Implications of divorce on reasons for living in older adolescents

Article Abstract:

286 adolescent undergraduates were administered the Reason for Living Inventory (RFL) to study differences in reasons for living between teenagers from divorced families and those from intact families. Adolescents of divorced homes did not adhere to family beliefs, but statistics of other adaptive traits showed that the age of the child at the time of divorce affected the child's adaptibility.
