What motivates and matters most to Generations X and Y

Article Abstract:

Generation X and Y refers to recent graduates and undergraduates. A study of factors they considered important in the workplace found that they wanted steady employment, respect, good salary, promotion, the chance for self-development and autonomy when working. Both X and Y people chose identical factors. Steady employment is not something many current workplaces offer so this may explain the rapid turnover of staff many companies have. Organisations should ensure they support staff development as a means of retaining staff commitment. Staff also gain more skills.
