An observation of the inclination of young girls to want couture fashion, rather than contemporary fashion designers, is presented. The younger generation have very clear ideas of what they want to wear and will give advice to their mothers on style. Young celebrities such as President's niece Lauren Bush and actress Reese Witherspoon are leading the way by endorsing couture labels.

The Zen way of life seems to have invaded the fashion world. Noted designers such as Donna Karan and Matthew Williamson have been incorporating the Zen into their designs by promoting austere and oddly proportioned dresses. Even the Western states seem to have been attracted by the yen for Zen via Chinese herbs and 'calming' skirts.
