The quality of drinking water is covered by three directives, while the Council Directive on the Quality of Bathing Water (76/160) deals with the reduction of pollution of bathing water. Dangerous substances in water are covered by the Council Directive on Pollution Caused by Dangerous Substances Discharged into the Aquatic Environment (76/464).
