On women and animals: a reply to Gruen and Gaard

Article Abstract:

Ecofeminists should avoid likening the oppression of women with the oppression of animals. Women have very different capacities as compared to animals and natural elements. To say that women are exploited highlights the discrepancy between the economic benefits they receive and those received by their employers. Exploitation of animals, however, is an irrelevant concept as they do not suffer any deprivation in the economic sense.

Osteoporosis: the silent crippler

Half the women over age 65 will suffer from fractures as a result of osteoporosis. The earlier a propensity toward the disease is diagnosed, the better. Treatment can consist of calcium supplementation, exercise and hormonal therapy.
