Argentina's dark horse: Malbec is making a name for itself with dark, powerful wines

Argentina is using a dark horse grape called 'Malbec' for preparing red wines, to capture the fancy of American wine lovers, delivering vivid fruit flavors and plush textures. Malbec plantings, which have nearly doubled in recent years, is resurrected as a top-caliber varietal in Argentina, and is seen by Argentina's vintners as key to their future.

Malbec's ancestral home: Cahors clings to tradition while it steps into the future

Article Abstract:

The grape Malbec, in France, with a long history, carries on a tradition of wine production dating back to hundreds of years. Malbec played a prominent role in the red wines of Bordeaux and was also a mainstay of Cahors, where it was an important part of the 'black wines', for which the region was famous even in medieval times.
