Australia: down under's premier red grape needed time, and luck, to gain respect

Article Abstract:

Shiraz, Australia's premier red grape, which was introduced in Australia in the 1830s, became a mainstay for the production of Port but it also made the better-quality dry reds. Shiraz, which has the dual ability to deliver early appeal and to develop with age, was stopped from being grown in the 1980s, by the Australian government, only to realize that the world needed more Syrah.
