Clerico keeps improving

Article Abstract:

Vintner Domeico Clerico shocked his winemaker father in 1981 by straying from Barolo tradition and aging Nebbiolo wines in oak barrels from France. The wines turned out to be excellent. The younger Clerico's technique and vintages are discussed.

An unlikely rebel

Piedmont vintner Bertelli prefers Syrah to Barbera and criticizes Asti authorities who ban Syrah's production. Bertelli, 40, is an unconventional winemaker whose experimental wines are outstanding. A history of his operation is presented.

Corvo producer brings elegance to Sicilian wine

Giacosa has created an excellent Sicilian wine, Duca Enrico, using local varietals. The 1984 wine is from Casa Vinicola Duca di Salaparuta. A history of the wine is presented, and Giacosa discusses biases against Sicilian wines.
