Grand Award Banquet Honors Julia Child

Article Abstract:

During the November, 1998 California Wine Experience in San Francisco, CA eminent chef Julia Child received the Wine Spectator's Distinguished Service Award. Other award winners were Baron Philippe de Rothschild, restaurateur Drew Nieporent and sommelier Larry Stone. News about future venues for the California Wine Experience were also presented. A montage of Child's television exploits and the music of Smoky Robinson were highlights.

The Wine Spectator top 100 picks for 1997 were re-tasted at a session during the November, 1998 California Wine Experience held in San Francisco, CA. The wines were tasted according to type, with white wines first and dessert wines last. All wines held up and those rated in the top ten proved to be especially popular.

Wine festival highlights winery boom in New York's Finger Lakes

Article Abstract:

The Finger Lakes district has seen 13 new wineries join an already established group of estates. A recent wine festival held at Watkins Glen was represented by 45 local wineries. Riesling, Chardonnay and Gewurztraminer are the most common varietals of the district.
