JAPAN: READY FREEZE-DRIED MEALS FOR DIABETICS

Article Abstract:

In response to the rising number of diabetics in Japan, due to the growing number of elderly people as well as an unhealthy lifestyle, Nippon Jiffy Shokuhin has introduced freeze dried meals which the Japanese Ministry of Health has approved as suitable for diabetics. These are prepared by just adding hot water. They come in a cream stew of salmon and spinach, priced at [yen] 990, vegetables and sliced beef for [yen] 950, rice gruel with Chinese cabbage and crab, priced at [yen] 990, and shimeji mushrooms with burdock, topped with a crumbled fish, meat and eggs topping, priced at [yen] 950. Each meal contains either 320 kcal or 240 kcal.

JAPAN: WAFERS AND HAM SOUP WITH COLLAGEN

Article Abstract:

Nippon Meat Packers have used collagen from type II chicken cartilage in its low-calorie seafood ham soup, and its Collagen Wafers which come in cocoa and vanilla varieties. These products have no side effects, are safe, and are also enriched with vitamin D and calcium. Collagen helps to prevent and to relieve chronic rheumatoid arthritis as well as other types of arthritis. Each packet of soup provides 100 mg of collagen, as do three wafers. There is only 12 kcal per portion of soup. They come in a set of ten boxes of wafers with six wafers per box, and ten 5-gram sachets of soup, with a total price of [yen] 6,000.

JAPAN: RICE FOR PATIENTS WITH KIDNEY FAILURE

Kameda Seika had developed a rice with one-fifth of the protein in standard cooked rice, for patients with chronic kidney failure. The number of patients on kidney dialysis has been rising. This product comes in packs of sixty servings, priced at [yen] 10,800 or in packs of ten servings priced at [yen] 3,800.
