KCC to be subsidised by government

President Moi of Kenya has announced that his government will initiate measures to bail out Kenya Cooperative Creameries (KCC) from its financial problems. KCC chairman Kibiwott Koros welcomed the plan to revive the dairy industry as a "major step towards eradicating poverty among dairy farmers." Northern Foods concentrating on core businesses

Northern Foods, dairy and food concern, saw operating profits of 72.6 million pounds sterling in the first half of 1994, down by 8.8 million pounds sterling from the first half of 1993. Operating profits fell in three of the company's four operating sectors, with sales of convenience foods falling 2% and operating profit from dairy sales falling by 14%.

Spanish milk company hit by loans crisis

Dairy products concern Puleva made heavy losses in 1994, and one of its directors has now offered his 25% stake to Westdeutsche Landesbank (WestLB), which has called in loans. It has already agreed to sell its infant food division to Abbott Laboratories, but its prospects for 1995 remain bleak. However, it should at least be able to avoid redundancies.
