New collectors boost market to record high: Wine Spectator's Auction Index posts its largest gain

Article Abstract:

The Auction Index rose sharply to a record high of 249.24 in the first half of 2006, a 25.96-point gain from the second half of 2005. The major reason attributed to this is the entry of new wine collectors in the auction market, who compete with veteran bidders for rare vintages like Lafite Rothschild1865 that brought a record $111,625, and other fine and rare wines from Bordeaux, Burgundy and Napa Valley.

California Cabernet at auction: Napa's top wines offer opportunities for buyers and sellers

Article Abstract:

California Cabernets are actively traded in commercial auctions with Napa's top wines like Screaming Eagle Cabernet Sauvignon increasing in value and others like Dominus 1999 decreasing in value over the years, thus providing opportunities for both buyers and sellers. Prices of particular wines in the same vintage also differ, presenting good values for investment and future selling.

Burgundy in demand

Article Abstract:

The inherent scarcity and renowned quality of top Burgundies are generating more bidding and higher prices than wines of any other collectible category on the market in 2005. Given the intense competition that select Burgundies engender, even a few determined collectors can dramatically affect their market price.
