Nurturing a disappearing art: Oregon distillery makes unique eau-de-vie

Article Abstract:

Steve McCarthy places pear blossoms in bottles and gets the pear to grow inside the bottle. He then strains 80-proof eau-de-vie into the bottle. The process is laborious and not always successful, and McCarthy understands why few undertake the effort.

Washington train on new track: luxury dinner excursion leaves Yakima for Seattle

The Spirit of Washington Dinner Train is now based in Renton, WA, and starts and ends its 44-mile trip in the small town near Seattle. Chateau St. Michelle Winery is the focal stop on this trip that offers food and tours of wineries.
