Cabernet Franc is gaining ground in Washington, making up nearly 10 percent of the outstanding wines in the state and posing a challenge to Merlot and Syrah. One reason for Cabernet Franc's success is that it offers something different with the variety being softer and more approachable than Cabernet Sauvignon.
