Screaming Eagle's new owners aim high: $500 price tag sets a new record in California

Article Abstract:

Charles Banks, the investment manager and sports and real-estate mogul Stan Kroenke acquired the most popular cult Cabernet Screaming Eagle from Jean Phillips, the former owner and winery founder. Banks plans to improve the cult Cabernet property but also maintain the high quality standards set by Phillips and has raised the price for Screaming Eagles to $500 a bottle, the highest priced California wine on release.

The article discusses the sale of the Williams Selyem Winery in 1998 by Burt Williams and Ed Selyem to Bob Cabral. The original owners were known for making exceptional Pinot Noir wines. There were concerns about whether or not Cabral would be able to continue the legacy, but he appears to be off to an excellent start.
