Fast food chains, discos and dinnerhouse restaurants are all incorporating the new technologies of acoustics and lighting. Light patterns are created as changing designs using devices that include lasers or perforated sheets of aluminum. Digital discs and color video systems are two more developing innovations.

Japanese fusion: Fumihiko Maki combines technology with ancient culture

Article Abstract:

Using both traditional craftsmanship and the materials and ideas of modern technology, Maki has designed a corporate guest house. Appearing like a typical large manor house from the outside, traditional symbols and ornamentation are used within with subtle care.
