US snacks market dominated by Frito-Lay

Article Abstract:

The Lays and Ruffles snack brands, both of which are owned by Frito-Lay, a subsidiary of PepsiCo, dominate the US snack market. They account for 48.3% of the market, compared with a share of only 9.9% for Procter and Gamble's Pringles, their nearest competitor. A number of smaller manufacturers have left the market, further boosting Frito-Lay's position. Many branded suppliers also supply private label products, especially as a result of the strong growth in the number of lower-fat snacks.
