Vegas theme in Sonoma Valley strikes big with $100,000 lot

Article Abstract:

The Sonoma Valley Harvest Wine Auction had a Las Vegas theme and hit the all time jackpot with $374,000 garnered in live bids. The toppers were the Benzinger family who bid $100,000 for the three 3-liter bottles of Merlot made by Ravenswood Winery's Joel Peterson using grower Bob Sangiacomo's last grape crop before he died of cancer, thus paying a tribute to their long-standing relationship with the Sangiacomos.

Lost and found

Article Abstract:

A rich-tasting, slightly sweet Chenin Blanc wine filled with scents of licorice, bitter almond and honeysuckle served with a creamy blue cheese, such as Blue des Causses of Bleu d'Auvergne is termed as a perfect example of a "lost" wine. California's best Chenin Blanc producers such as Casa Nuescra, Dry Creek Vineyard and Chappellet, persist in offering age-worthy, distinctive, dry Chenin Blancs.
