Changes in regulation of lymphopoiesis and myelopoiesis in the zinc-deficient mouse

Article Abstract:

A lack of zinc is shown to affect the lymphoid compartment of the marrow and the thymus. Myeloid cells, especially the neutrophils, show a higher degree of survival with lower zinc levels than the lymphocytes. Perhaps this is a regulatory choice because the myeloid cells are the first zone of immune defense. Zinc deficiency has the greatest impact on lymphopoiesis.

Regulation of isulin-like growth factor-1 in starvation and injury

Article Abstract:

Research presented concerns the processes influencing the reduction in circulating insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-1 and grown hormone (GH) responsiveness that takes place during sepsis and starvation. Topics addressed include the complexity of growth hormone resistance and the development of new medical strategies to recover the healthful effects IGF-1 and GH.
