Is chromium supplementation effective in managing type II diabetes?

Article Abstract:

Research in China comparing the use of placebos to chromium supplementation for people with type II diabetes suggests chromium may be an effective treatment. This substance is cheap, natural, and probably harmless. Before chromium is accepted as a substitute for insulin in the US, data from the study needs further analysis, the ability of chromium to lower blood glucose must be further examined, large clinical trials need to be conducted in a Western diabetic population, and independent investigators should confirm these results.

Calcium requirements of breast-feeding mothers

Article Abstract:

Increased calcium intake has been studied during 6 months of full breastfeeding and during weaning for lactating women with a dietary calcium intake below 800 mg/day. These data were compared with nonlactating women who had recently given birth. Supplementation of 1000 mg of calcium per day did not impact breast milk calcium concentration or lactation-associated bone mineral changes in the radius, lumbar spine or total body. It appears women do not need extra calcium when breastfeeding.
