Paris then and now

A personal narrative is presented of Paris, France, with particular reference to the cuisine. Having lived in the city for twenty years, the writer has observed trends such as nouvelle cuisine being replaced by the importance of the personal signature of the chef, and the increasingly social aspect of dining.

A woman recounts her life in Vaison-la-Romaine in the Provence region of France. Since buying a farmhouse in 1984 with her husband, she has seen her coterie of friends expanding to include local merchants, such as winemakers and meat suppliers. She notes the changes in her village.
