Self-efficacy as an intermediate outcome variable in the transtheoretical model: validation of a measurement model for applications to dietary fat reduction

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to examine the validity of a 12-item situational self-efficacy scale designed to measure confidence for dietary fat reduction. A sample of 491 adult women residents of Guelph, Ontario, who were not pregnant or nursing, participated in telephone interviews. Results provided strong evidence of construct validity as shown by the substantially higher self-efficacy scale scores among subjects that were assigned to action and maintenance than those assigned to contemplation,, precontemplation and preparation.
