Inflation's dying; let's not revive it

Article Abstract:

Chronic inflation is rapidly disappearing in the western world. Average inflation in industrialized countries is below 3% and it is expected to fall even further in some nations. The result of this development is that prices are more likely to decrease than to increase. The current trend is expected to persist and may even shift to price deflation. This is already being observed in Japan whose inflation rate is now down to negative 0.4%. The demise of perpetual inflation is confusing to many who accept the continuous increase in prices as a natural part of life, but it should be noted that prices in pre-World War II were as likely to fall as to rise. In fact, prices in Britain in 1932 were about the same as in 1795. Prolonged low inflation could be beneficial if governments and monetary authorities prepare for it. Conversely, continued disbelief that persistent low inflation can happen could harm the economy.

Moral atmosphere and judgments about aggression in girls' soccer: relationships among moral and motivational variables

Article Abstract:

Responses in a study of female soccer players ages 9 to 14 suggest that a sort of moral atmosphere in the team setting is a major influence on player aggression. A moderate relationship emerged between players' perceptions of their coaches and teams, and their individual judgments about athletic aggression. The players' perceptions of their coaches' ego (as opposed to goal) orientations more strongly predicted likelihood to aggress than did the players' own ego orientations.
