The real chablis

Article Abstract:

The grape-growing region of Chablis, France suffered from mildew and other threats and lost much of its wine marketing to other areas. Vintners from around the world began to use the name 'Chablis' on less expensive wines. New technology has enabled French farmers to once again produce their unique wines.

Sparkling wine production has slowed since 1988 but better quality has resulted. Rumor says French champagne prices will drop in 1993, but US wineries say their sparkling wines can compete. Various wine brands are suggested.
