Chain of custody vital to certification process

Article Abstract:

Wood products companies can use a Certification Information System (CIS) to track products through all levels of production and distribution for the purposes of complying with environmental certification requirements. The CIS system uses bar-code technology and electronic data linkages to track products from the stage of harvested log through to fabrication of consumer product. A need for joint supplier/buyer inventory management and communications will arise as pressure heightens to environmentally certify wood products. Additional details on CIS implementation are presented.
