French sawmills show off world-class technologies

Article Abstract:

French sawmills have incorporated high-tech solutions in their operations. For example, one of Escobois's two sawmills in France's Aquitaine region installed an extra production line to handle small-log processing in 1990. The mill also began using optimizing software to determine the most effective yields for the region's maritime pine. A sawmill owned by Ets Guy Neurisse undertook a modernization program costing $145,000 and improved production by 10%. Ets Lhospital, a moulding plant, also use high-tech equipment, including an automatic stacker and a GreCon optimizing saw.

Curve sawing, optimization boost mills total efficiency

Article Abstract:

The use of computer sawing technology has allowed the sawmill of Max Meilleur et Fils to prosper with lumber created from curved logs. Logs as small as 7.5 inches in diameter can be cut using Sawquip machines, while others are cut with slower machines, and the mill can produce between 1000 and 2500 logs per shift. Computers sna each and every process, and calculate the optimum curves for each log, including the value of the chips produced in the cutting process.
