MDF plants planned in Brazil, Malaysia, Germany

Article Abstract:

Medium-density fiberboard (MDF) manufacturing plants will be constructed in Germany, Brazil and Malaysia. In Brazil, Duratex SA plans to spend R$310 million through 1998 to expand capacity, including R$70 million of which will be used to construct an MDF plant. In Malaysia, Nissho Iawai Corp, Samling Corp and Dainippon Ink and Chemicals Inc plan to construct an MDF plant that will begin production in Apr 1997. In Germany, a $29 million expansion of Glunz Group's MDF mill will be ready for production in 1996. Other companies in other areas also plan MDF plant construction.

Industry-Indian partnership offers training, wood products

Article Abstract:

Cree First Nation and Domtar Inc. formed a partnership to develop and operate a sawmill in northern Quebec. Native participation in Canada's forest industry has been a growing trend. The joint venture allow Cree First Nation to create jobs, operate the facility, and develop business expertise in the native community. It is estimated that the project will create 70 jobs at the sawmill facility.
