Optimization: it's not just for mill machinery anymore

Article Abstract:

Speakers at the 1996 International Conference on Scanning Technology and Press Optimization for the Wood Products Industry in Vancouver, BC, discussed the ways scanning processing technology can achieve optimization in wood processing. Once considered a luxury, efficient processing is now a necessity in an industry where raw material costs are so high. Adequate staff training is also an essential part of processing optimization efforts.

Personnel style makes new MDF plant a standout

Article Abstract:

Willamette Industries uses team management at its new Bennettsville, SC, medium-density fiberboard (MDF) plant. Almost 75% of the plant's 117 workers are classified as MDF technicians, salaried employees who help make decisions about the plant's day-to-day operation. Team management has helped keep employee morale high and turnover low. Only three workers have left their positions since the plant started hiring in Jun 1991.
