New wonders of the world: a popular international program celebrates treasured places all over the globe-except the United States

Article Abstract:

American officials are skeptical of an international program that sets standards for preserving historic and natural wonders. Congress has declared that no place in America can be considered for World Heritage status until every last property owner has formally consented and the fear that seems to be that a World Heritage Site designation might limit economic development.

A brief discussion during the election time highlighting on the various political issues by President Bush such as the economic policies, which are not beneficial for 95% of Americans and the differences between Bush and democratic candidates, is presented. The ideas expressed for choosing a better government beneficial for citizens are discussed.

The authors have rated Montgomery County, Maryland, as the most enlightened suburb--of Washington, D.C. One of Montgomery County's smart moves has been to preserve thousands of acres of farmland. Communities in the county include Takoma Park and Kentlands.
