Article Abstract:

Author Frank Sulloway's hypothesis that order of birth decides whether the individual is a conformist or a free thinker is tested on several well-known personalities. Among these are movie director John Waters and writers Terry Tempest Williams and Katha Pollitt. Results negate Sulloway's theory.

The primordial schmooze: was gossip the evolutionary spark for human speech?

Psychology professor Robin Dunbar has theorized the desire to gossip was the motivation for the development of language. He sees language as an offshoot of the grooming customs of primates.
