Attorney General

Article Abstract:

Democrat Bill Lockyer won over Republican Dave Stirling by a margin of 52% to Stirling's 42% in the election for California's Attorney General. This year's election for the position did not generate much attention, forcing both candidates to make personal attacks against each other. Stirling tried to insinuate that Lockyer used drugs during his term in the Legislature. Lockyer, in turn, attacked Stirling and Democratic candidate for governor Dan Lungren for not firmly enforcing a state law which prohibited the use of assault weapons.

Attorney General

Article Abstract:

Deputy Atty Gen David Stirling and Sen Bill Lockyer won the Republican and the Democratic primaries, respectively, for the Attorney General's office. Stirling won against Orange County District Atty Mike Capizzi while Lockyer handily won over former Congresswoman Lynn Schenk and Sen Charles Calderon. California's primaries for the Attorney General's office are considered as the second most important contest next to the gubernatorial race since they serve as a steppingstone for the office of the governor.

Attorney General

Article Abstract:

The race between Democrat Bill Lockyer and Republican David Stirling is being watched closely as the office is seen as a step closer towards a gubernatorial post. While Lockyer is trying to sell itself by underscoring the alleged mismanagement of the Attorney General's office under his opponent's leadership, Stirling claims that Lockyer is too soft on crime even as he emphasizes how violent crime has gone down during his time as deputy at the justice department.
