Can Arnold lift an elephant?

Article Abstract:

The ramifications for the Republican Party in the wake of Arnold Schwarzenegger's election as California's governor are discussed. The most important lesson it is suggested is that in spite of being looked upon as a Democratic stronghold at the national level, at the statewide level California is often firmly in the center of the political spectrum.
