Environmental opposites

Article Abstract:

Assemblyman Keith Olberg proposed to include protection of property owners in the Endangered Species Act pursuant to his general view about constitutional protections for private property rights. This act would pose serious problems on business. Contrary to what his critics say, Olberg is also an advocate of the environmental protection movement. He believed however, that to have a relatively clean environment a country must have a sound policy. There has to be a balance between environmental protection program and protection to property rights.

Dan Lungren shakes up justice

Article Abstract:

A profile of controversial California attorney general Dan Lungren is presented and issues concerning his stewardship of the state Department of Justice are discussed. Lungren's tenure as attorney general has been marked by significant internal turmoil and a decision-making process that critics say sometimes excludes necessary expertise within the office. Lungren counters that these internal controversies are the usual organizational upheavals of a new administration complicated by Draconian state budget cutbacks.
