Equivalence scales and the costs of disability

Article Abstract:

The effect of disability costs on aggregate household welfare expenditures is investigated using the equivalence scales method. The results show that physical disability has a substantial impact on household fuel and transport costs. Disabled households exhibited a tendency to spend their budgets more on necessities than on luxury items. This suggests positive consumption costs of disability.
